Our Investors

The Maven UK Regional Buyout Fund is backed by an international and blue-chip institutional Limited Partner investor base, including Pension Funds, Regional Funds, Asset Managers and Family Offices as well as HNW individuals.

The Fund also runs an active coinvestment programme, with a significant amount of coinvestment funded by our existing LP base.

How we add value

We work closely with management teams, both executive and operational, focusing on all aspects of value creation, alongside supporting the executive team in refining and delivering on their growth strategy. Maven also has an extensive network of successful business leaders who can provide market and sector insight alongside advice and support to management teams. This can be in a non-executive, chair or mentor capacity to help accelerate business growth and development. We are very focused on driving value through bolt-on acquisitions and our deal teams provide management with support from deal origination, through to structuring and post completion integration.

How we work

Embedded in Key UK Economic Regions

Maven operates as one team but from multiple regional offices, providing unique access to lower mid-market buyout opportunities. Our regional-centric model ensures that we are able to devote the time on the ground required to build long-standing relationships with portfolio companies as well as the advisory and intermediary community, in order to drive strong and off-market/limited process deal flow.

Successful Track Record

Maven has a strong track record of originating, adding value and delivering returns to our investors, across the deal size spectrum.  We have completed over 50 buyouts since 2009 and the Maven team has built up expertise across many of the UK’s more vibrant and high growth sectors. Our stable approach to investing is also recognised in the market with a high capital preservation ratio and excellent downside protection.

Industry Expertise

The Fund is invested across targeted industry sectors with a focus and proven expertise in Technology and Tech-enabled Business Services Financial Services and Niche IP-led manufacturing.

Sensible Deal Structures

We have a proven track record of acquiring businesses at sensible entry multiples without overly relying on high levels of debt, structuring the deals appropriately to position the businesses for future organic and acquisitive growth.

Strong Bolt-on Deal Flow

Our widely connected team accesses extensive, quality deal flow from across the UK regions, often avoiding formal or competitive processes. We have delivered a number of bolt-on acquisition opportunities to our portfolio companies, supporting management in the deal negotiations, due diligence, structuring and post deal integration.

Value Creation

Every investment has a strong focus on value creation pre and post investment, starting with a detailed 100-day plan and further encompassing operational excellence, top line growth delivery, strategy and exit planning.

Strong Partnerships

We look to build long term positive working relationships with the people we back. Each Maven office is within close proximity to its portfolio companies, facilitating hands-on and collaborative partnerships to drive growth and support the management teams that we back.

Highly Resourced and Stable Team

Maven has one of the most experienced investment teams in the UK. We can add value by sharing our knowledge and experience gained over several decades investing in hundreds of businesses, as well as leveraging the insights and support of the wider Maven operations across our extensive network of regional offices.

Our Buyout Team

Our Buyout Team has strength in depth, with complementary skillsets, extensive investment and value creation experience, and a proven long-term track record.  Supported by Maven’s strong ecosystem and regional office model, the team is phenomenally well connected with a strong local presence and deep network of relationships.

Maven’s commitment to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)

Maven became a signatory to the internationally recognised United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment in June 2021 and are committed to including Environmental, Social and Governance factors in key investment decision making.

Maven is also a signatory to the Investing in Women Code which aims to improve female entrepreneurs’ access to tools, resources and finance, supporting diversity and inclusion in access to finance.

In addition to the important humanitarian and environmental imperatives, a strong focus on ESG is a real driver of value creation, ensuring that things are done not only the best way but also the right way, with a genuine alignment of interests for the long-term growth and sustainability of the businesses in which we invest.

We see ESG, done properly and not as a tick-box exercise, as key to our value enhancement as well as to our alignment with both our LP investors and portfolio businesses.

Maven has recently invested meaningfully in its ESG framework and reporting capabilities to ensure ESG issues and opportunities are carefully identified and managed throughout the period of investment and for the longer term, with close engagement with management teams in relation to robust corporate governance and support in developing policies on the environment, community, HR, employee relations and responsible product marketing.

For many of our investee companies, our knowledgeable and guiding hand across all pillars of ESG will allow them to develop and grow their business in additional, improved and more sustainable ways for the long term.
