Following recent award nominations for other Maven regional investment teams, it is the turn of our North West executives to be recognised by the Insider Dealmakers Awards.
James Rosthorn, Investment Manager at Maven, has been nominated for Emerging Dealmaker of the Year. James has played a key role within our North West investment team, supporting several Growth Capital deals, including Manchester BioTech innovator, Biorelate, and a follow-on investment in web-based compliance tool iAM Compliant alongside an Equity Finance deal in FinTech solution provider, Nivo Solutions.
Maven has also been nominated for Venture Capital Team of the Year. With a long-established presence in the North West of England, Maven remains as one of the most active investors in growing business across the region having backed over 170 SMEs, including 75 companies through the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, deploying over £160m since 2009. Our large team of dedicated and experienced investment executives based across our regional offices have a proven track record of helping to grow businesses across a wide range of sectors including B2B and B2C models, encompassing Technology, Industrials and Engineering, Healthcare, and Service businesses.
The third nomination is for Deal of the Year (sub £10m) for the Series A investment into Manchester-based AI company, Biorelate. Founded in 2014, the business curates biomedical knowledge to empower drug discovery through their proprietary AI platform, Galactic AI™. This technology combines natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) to capture highly valuable biomedical data and insights, which pharmaceutical and life sciences organisations can utilise to improve decision making in their drug discovery programs. Since launching Galactic AI™ in 2020, Biorelate has experienced significant growth and has brought on board leading global companies including AstraZeneca and Idorsia. Biorelate is using the investment to increase its commercial and technical capacity, as well as support wider expansion into the US which is the biomedical industry’s largest market.
The annual Insider North West Dealmakers Awards 2023 will take place at Manchester Central on 12 October where it will celebrate the top acquisitions, funding deals and buyouts across the region, as well as the people and firms that made them happen.
