Key Sector Experience

Multi sector and transactional experience – including debt, venture, turnaround and later stage.

Bill chairs Maven’s Investment Committee for the MBO funds and the Maven VCTs, as well as overseeing Investor Partners. Prior to his time at Maven, he was head of growth capital at Aberdeen, and in the mid-1990s he was head of the private equity team at National Australia Bank. Bill and his senior colleagues led a management buyout from Aberdeen to form Maven, subsequently overseeing significant growth in people and assets under management, prior to the successful sale of Maven to Mattioli Woods Limited in 2021.

With more than 40 years’ experience in banking, corporate finance and fund management, he is one of the most experienced smaller-company private equity practitioners in the UK. Bill is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and has an MBA from Strathclyde University.

Away from the office Bill enjoys working on his golf handicap, skiing in the Alps with family and friends, and is a keen padel tennis player.

Most of my career has been spent in the private equity sector, working closely with founders and entrepreneurs, and helping to finance their growth ambitions. In recent years I have seen the UK progressively develop into a world leading technology economy, with new commercial opportunities and businesses constantly emerging to take advantage of evolving market and consumer trends. Allied to a vibrant market for later stage and mature economy transactions, the outlook for the private equity sector and the UK as a whole remains very positive.
