In 2009 Bill led an MBO from Aberdeen Asset Management (Aberdeen) and, along with his senior colleagues at that time, established Maven as a new player in the SME finance market. As Managing Partner and VCT Fund Manager he subsequently oversaw the growth of the Maven business and later led the successful sale to Mattioli Woods in 2021. In early 2026, after 17 years as Managing Partner, he took up a new role as Chair with continuing responsibility for the development of the Maven Investor Partner business. Bill also chairs the Maven Investment Committee for the MBO funds and the VCTs.
Prior to Maven Bill held Private Equity leadership roles with Aberdeen Asset Management and Clydesdale Bank. With more than 40 years’ experience in banking, corporate finance and fund management, he is one of the most experienced smaller-company private equity practitioners in the UK. Bill is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and has an MBA from Strathclyde University.
Away from the office Bill enjoys working on his golf handicap, skiing in the Alps with family and friends, and is a keen padel tennis player.
