Established over 30 years ago, Envitia is a respected provider of data and geospatial technology and services to both the private and public sectors. In 2020, the company secured investment from the Maven UK Regional Buyout Fund to scale its offering and further develop its innovative solutions that solve a broad range of complex data challenges. This investment marked the start of a comprehensive transformation across Envitia’s operations, leadership and strategy.

Over the past 24 months, Envitia has undertaken a company-wide transformation to introduce enhanced disciplines and best practices vital to sustaining its growth trajectory. Recognising the strategic role that HR could play in that process, and its value add, the board appointed HR Director Rowena Cowan, who initiated a strategy aimed at prioritising talent acquisition, retention and engagement. These initiatives focused on diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), employee wellbeing, early careers and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

As is the case for many SMEs, Envitia had struggled with employee retention in previous years, this has since reduced to just 4.2%, driven by the ambitious strategy introduced. Other key outcomes include more than doubling the headcount, significant savings in recruitment fees, high onboarding satisfaction scores and a 2024 eNPS of +55, all indicators of the company’s cultural transformation.

Active portfolio management is crucial to driving value creation across our investee companies, and Envitia’s inclusion in The Sunday Times list underscores the strength of its business model, the calibre of its leadership team and the success of its post-MBO growth journey.

“I was delighted to see Envitia achieve The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025 accolade. This demonstrates the clear positive impact of investment in the right people and talent across the business, but also the hard work of the whole Envitia team in reaching this point. The transformation and investment here has facilitated the significant growth in talent over the last two years”.
