Led by Clever Devices and supported by Liftango and Optai, the strategic collaboration with SPTrans will modernise one of the world's largest surface transportation systems. This ambitious initiative will enhance the utilisation of the city's 13,000-bus public transport fleet and the 4,200 vehicles dedicated to school and paratransit transportation services, setting a new global benchmark for intelligent, inclusive, and efficient transportation.
The new project will see the implementation of a comprehensive suite of cloud-based Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and planning and scheduling solutions to optimise operations across São Paulo's vast bus network, operated by 24 different companies, as one of the world's largest projects involving the implementation of ITS technology for public transportation.
In parallel, Liftango, as a subcontractor to Clever Devices, supported by its local partner Optai, will lead the transformation of São Paulo's specialized mobility services, including the free school transportation program TEG (Transporte Escolar Gratuito) and the paratransit transportation service Atende+, which provides essential door-to-door service for people with disabilities. Leveraging cutting-edge Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) technology, this initiative will modernize and digitize operations across a fleet of over 4,800 vehicles.
With a strong emphasis on sustainability, accessibility, and operational efficiency, the project was designed to significantly expand service reach and improve passenger capacity without increasing fleet size; By streamlining operations and enhancing user experience, the effort will set a new standard for inclusive and intelligent public transportation in São Paulo and serve as a model for other cities around the world.
Key components of this initiative include: digitalization and optimization of door-to-door services for people with disabilities; enhanced tracking and routing for school transportation; and launch of a new flexible, on-demand bus service to improve accessibility and passenger experience. The new contract marks Liftango's fourth major initiative in Brazil, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive and sustainable mobility.
"This project is a game-changer, not just for São Paulo, but for the entire region. The scale and ambition of this partnership open the doors to a new era of mobility across Latin America. We are excited to be part of a movement that is transforming how cities think about transportation, making it smarter, more flexible, and truly inclusive. São Paulo is leading the way, and this is just the beginning."
