Steve joined the Maven team (when it was the private equity division at Aberdeen Asset Management) in 2006 and is based in our Glasgow office. Steve has overall responsibility for VCT fundraising and sales, including maintaining relationships with advisers, wealth managers and key industry commentators. He also works with Maven’s PR agency to manage press relationships, as well as working closely with Maven’s marketing team to manage marketing initiatives across all business areas and Maven client funds.
After serving as a Navigating Officer in the Royal Navy, Steve moved into financial services with Life and Pensions house London Life in 1991, and subsequently held senior roles with Scottish Equitable, Friends Provident and AXA Life, where he led sales and regional teams focussed on corporate pensions and investment sales, developed sales and marketing strategies, and focused on managing national relationships with major corporate accounts and business partners. At Friends Provident he was also selected for its European Management Programme, helping lead collaborative projects with European partner companies.
Steve has a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire.
Outside of work Steve enjoys time with his family, watching rugby, travelling, photography and genealogy research.
Having worked extensively in the Pensions and Investment markets previously, I find the VCT arena really interesting. With pension tax reliefs having been cut back dramatically, VCTs offer some great tax-free investments opportunities and allow ordinary investors the chance to benefit from the success of exciting new businesses they couldn’t normally access. I joined Maven because it has huge experience in a specialist sector, small businesses enjoy working with us, and we see some fantastic success stories among the businesses we back.
