Richard Male

Richard joined Maven in April 2024 as Managing Director of Maven Cognition, Maven’s specialist EIS fund manager. He leads the overall strategy and growth of the business, from fundraising and investor support to supporting the deal team with governance and technical expertise in his specialist areas. Richard works closely with Maven colleagues to ensure Maven Cognition maintains robust investment processes and compliance standards, contributing to portfolio construction, risk management, and post-investment support.

Richard has over fifteen years’ experience at the intersection of venture investment, research institutes, and public–private partnerships. His earlier work helped establish national centres such as the National Composites Centre. He has held leadership roles in technology investment, research strategy, and innovation policy, including as Director of Research & Innovation at Corsham Institute and Venture Partner at Ufi Ventures. Richard is also an Industry Fellow of the Royal Society, supporting the bridge between research, industry, and investment.  
 
Outside work, Richard enjoys all aspects of motorsport and participates in both on-track and simulator racing. He also plays padel and continues research in AI and robotics. He is an enthusiastic- if occasionally frustrated and generally rather poor golfer.
