John joined Maven in September 2026 as Partner for the Debt Funds team. He is responsible for leading Maven’s delivery of the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II debt mandate, supporting ambitious SMEs and working closely with businesses, advisers, and the wider ecosystem.
John has 18 years’ experience in commercial banking, growth lending, and investment finance. Prior to joining Maven, he was Head of Investor Coverage and Software Banking at Barclays, where he worked with high-growth technology companies, venture capital and private equity investors. He previously held senior roles at Silicon Valley Bank, Espresso Capital, and HSBC, where his work included building lending books, originating and managing investment portfolios, and structuring growth capital solutions for companies and investment funds.
John holds a degree in Business Economics from Durham University and is also a Non-Executive Director on Durham University Business School’s Board.
Outside of work, John is a competitive triathlete and is working on his golf swing. He also enjoys chess and spending time in the countryside with his wife, Jodie, their two children and their two dogs.
