We are currently recruiting for an Investment Associate to join Maven’s North East investment team on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will have a rare opportunity to join an experienced investment house as it deploys and manages three venture capital funds across the North East.

 

This is a full-time, office-based role of 34.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

You will be a core member of the North East team helping to identify, appraise and partner with the most exciting high growth businesses in the North East as well as supporting the growth of the Fund’s portfolio companies. The focus will be on the new NPIF II Fund and Finance Durham Fund which target a diverse range of growing SMEs across the North East with investments of up to £5 million.

What you need to succeed

  • The role would suit a graduate with a degree in business, finance, law, mathematics or other related discipline who is in the early stages of their career.
  • Candidate will be highly numerate and literate, be able to demonstrate a professional and relational communication style, and be able to manage multiple competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Ability to research new industry sectors and assimilate information quickly and reach appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Good data analysis skills and be highly competent with excel.
  • Personable, able to build relationships and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders – managers, advisors etc.
  • We are looking for someone who is a self-starter with tenacity and drive, and able to use their initiative to make a meaningful contribution to the wider team’s overall deal related responsibilities and workflows.

The Role & Responsibilities

When working in this dynamic, fast paced environment the role will include but is not limited to the following:

New Investment Activity

  • Help co-ordinate deal flow and deal tracking via internal reporting systems.
  • Manage deal flow administration and data reporting for Maven and for external fund stakeholders.
  • Undertake research of potential investment opportunities including research into sectors, markets and competitors.
  • Undertake deal origination activities including research to identify and qualify potential companies for the investment team to target for new investments.
  • Support and participate in networking and market participation activities, such as attending networking events, business seminars and market education opportunities across the region.

Portfolio Management

  • Work with investment team colleagues to support regular board and investee company meetings.
  • Gather and input monthly information and other required portfolio data into internal reporting systems.
