Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs) are fully-listed companies whose investments must be predominantly in businesses which meet specific qualifying conditions, including unlisted companies and those quoted on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM). Consequently whilst there is scope for significant rewards from such an investment, there is also significantly more risk attached to owning such shares than there is with more established 'blue chip' companies. VCTs do however offer significant advantages for tax-paying investors, whether purchased as new issues or on the open market.
